A SUMMER VACATION

“I want I need a summer vacation some where near the beach just like those two people!” I implored pointing at a picture of a couple staring placidly at the sea

It must be some where in France I mused

“No!”said my mom “Rita you cannot because there is no money

to pay for such exotic fun !”

“YEAH mum you are right”!I said, tears trickling down my cheeks

I slammed the blighted door and brought pen to paper

dear diary, I began

what a plight all they spent their time was on arguments and fights and spirituality but not on the basic joys and the most important thing on this planet EARNING MONEY…

obsessed they were on each others faults BUT not the strengths of each other

A vacation I will have by earning one for myself

free no longer dependent on them(mum&dad)

thus I closed the book.

Past Gone

It was winter …she could see the cold in its frosty glory settled on the scenery outside

the time had come

she opened the door and walked in the snow that evening right where the icy pond lay

and placed the small paper boat on the placid still surface , the little boat carried a small

piece of paper and on it were the words goodbye

good bye she said softly and turned back

At home , she blew out the candle in room

sleep came soundlessly and effortlessly that night

The next day was bright and cheery …the sun was shining brightly by now the pond would have melted…

She was ready for work and a new phase

Sam came out to greet her , she smiled Come she said lets work on that new project

and together they stepped outside

The Boat of her past had sailed away from her harbor

Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers

149 words

“They are the chopped woods kept by grandpa Ben”, said Tom

“They will be sold to the local seller Sam soon” said Gina

“Why does grandpa Ben work so much?”at his age he should be resting!” chipped in Claire.

“children !” came a voice from the Maple nearby .

“That is because Old Ben loves  YOU and work !”

That was Grandma .

Grandma was really a jovial woman , she gathered the three children around her and narrated tales of  grandpa and his hard work to them , praising him always despite grandpa being a grumbling sort of fellow…despite the children being irritated because of his old age…SHE ALWAYS TOLD THEM HE LOVED THEM  AND THEREFORE HE WORKED FOR THE FAMILY.

“We too want to be hardworking like our grandpa” squealed the trio !

And the water gushes by…

This is the spot !, she exclaimed.

He looked incredulous , “how ? please explain !”, he asked.

Well look carefully ! she said peering down “what do you see?”

he replied , “water ”

“Well that maybe just water to you !…but at that point it was not water to me !”,she mused.

Looking back at him slowly “to me this water was a force , look ! look at the way it is flowing , swiftly , with consistent agility, never caring for those rocks which seem to act like obstacles, carving its own way , dodging whatever that seems to obstruct its path.Flowing freely .”

“My dear”, she said looking back at water , “this was my source of inspiration , back when the chips were down , I persisted and carried on and what you see before you is the famed award-winning writer !”smiled she.

All it took was one walk in the woods and a rendezvous with nature.

My first brush with the London Elite !

“That man over there is Sir Gerald James , the girl next to him is Miss Pauline Emery and that stately woman standing over there is Lady Cristobel James  and you my sir are invited by our Lady to this small soiree of hers as a guest for retrieving her handbag from the thief the other day!”, said the butler to me as I was ushered in the hall.

The lady saw me and immediately introduced me to her other guests, all of them belonging to an affluent class. She told them of her latest adventure with the handbag and made me quite heroic in their eyes!

My ! my ! lady luck seems to be smiling at me I said to myself .New  in London and already rubbing shoulders with the rich ! Who knows I may get employed by one of them  and then become them!

My Time of Glory has come !

The song man’s tale

Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone
It’s not warm when she’s away…

“Wow ! that was pretty rad ! ” exclaimed the girl

“I didn’t know that you could sing !”

“I always knew I could sing well” sighed Joe as  strummed a few

strings on his guitar ,  wistfully thinking how he could have pursued

his passion than followed what everyone at that time was doing , getting a corporate job…of course! it was at Anita ‘s insistence , that he worked at a job he had no interest in ,   but what good did it do now?!

he asked himself .

He was broke , Anita had left him for some other  and all he had was his little girl and his music.

“Don’t worry pappah ! ” he felt a small hand on his lap as tears were beginning to well up in his eyes.

daddy will give you all the best things ,  he mused hugging her.

Farewell you ebony !

T

Like the old I must let you go .

So dusty , lost glory , polish gone and so negative

All you do is bring back the memories of that pathetic past,

when I look at you all that which is associated with sadness, melancholy

and loneliness comes to my mind , But why did I keep you for so long

all you did was sit in the dust , I am therefore freeing me of this ebony

that is you …

you are a clutter , a past and I wish to let you go , so now after occupying my space for so

many years I am finally letting you of !

Freeing us both of this misery of stagnation !

You ! I am selling off ! so you can start again and this room can host something beautiful and pleasant !

above were the sentiments expressed by a girl who gave up on learning the piano long ago !

And she won’t change her mind

It was late afternoon , she strolled in the farmyard and saw two  eyes staring at her .

‘Sooo cute !! Such an adorable calf !’she  exclaimed to herself and went ahead to stroke it.

Few minutes later , she heard footsteps …

She turned back and looked …

“WHO ARE YOU and What are you doing here ?! ”

“I…I…am just”  before she could say anything further she was interrupted by

Jamie “cool, bro ,  thats Liz we are off for some fish  , come on Liz ”

he called .

At the cafe Liz was still reeling under the impression of Joshua O Riley ‘ s image .Never in her eighteen  years had she seen someone so beautiful that made her stutter. She was dating Jamie for 3 years now , was happy , probably that Josh guy already has someone ,plus he was rude ,  well none of my business she said to herself. Looks are not everything …

sweet daffodil

He flopped on the seat .He was waiting . He didn’t know what to expect. Then he saw her …that woman , nothing much had changed .

Tall and slender , black heels and a Cartier , chiffon blouse and a khaki skirt …a reminder of those silhouettes of the moviestars of the golden age of Hollywood.

It had been 2 decades since they had last met , she had asked him to leave .

She  loved  another man , had betrayed him and never once called back , so why was she here after all these years and why did he come after that intense betrayal .

He got up and looked into her eyes , she stared back. She took his hand and gave him a daffodil . In her eyes he saw the tears that she was trying to hide…at that moment he knew.

“Lets go home mum ” he said as hand in hand they disappeared in the crowd.

The story is 149 words long.

The wind played softly with her hair , it was a long day , she trudged along , weary and sad till she came across a small street ,hidden from the main road lighted with angelic decorations of white lights , she stood staring at that luminosity and felt good.

She was approaching 50 and had quit her long comfortable job , that of a banker. At this point in her life she felt lost and alone , she needed to rethink of the direction of her journey .She looked at the bright lights , lost in thoughts, when all of a sudden she felt a small tug at her skirt.

It was a small boy carrying a bouquet of roses. He picked one “only .60 cents ma’am”he said. She smiled “I will take all of them dear “.

She had found her purpose …teaching to children who can’t afford education…
